Tinea versicolor, also known as pityriasis versicolor, is a common fungal infection of the skin that causes discoloured patches on the skin's surface. These patches can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin and are often found on the trunk, upper arms, neck, and abdomen. The condition is caused by a type of yeast that lives on the skin, and while it's not contagious, it can be more prevalent in hot, humid climates and in adolescents and young adults.
